Violet-blue light exposure of the skin: is there need for protection?

چکیده

Abstract Advocates of skin protection against blue light express concern about exposure to indoor lighting and electronic screens as well natural outdoor exposure. However, the nature adverse effects in is unclear doses induce are unknown. We aimed reveal whether there a scientific basis for promoting violet-blue (400–500 nm, VBL). Based on published literature, we determined time reach threshold dose that induced biological response human skin. In absence an action spectrum skin, used hand held probe with defined spectral measurements unweighted between 400 500 nm estimate by selection artificial sources solar light. For comparison, erythemally weighted UV was set 1 SED (standard erythema dose). Outdoor, irradiances were obtained using radiative transfer model. Induction pigmentation tissue only consistently reported endpoint after VBL 65 Jcm −2 . This reached 0.5 20 months sources. specialised medical this min 45 h. The outdoors shorter than throughout all seasons. Skin superfluous exposures domestic or radiation; however, it may be advantageous patients suffering from photosensitive diseases taking photosensitising medication.

Comparative Sensitivity of Trichophyton and Aspergillus Conidia to Inactivation by Violet-Blue Light Exposure.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the use of 405 nm light for inhibiting the growth of selected species of dermatophytic and saprophytic fungi. BACKGROUND DATA The increasing incidence and resilience of dermatophytic fungal infections is a major issue, and alternative treatment methods are being sought. METHODS The sensitivity of the dermatophytic fungi Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrop...

Radiation exposure during percutaneous nephrolithotomy; Is there a risk of the patient and the operating team?

Background: The aim of this study was to calculate the radiation amount exposed during percutaneous nephrolithototomy (PCNL) and to make the urologists and other staff sensitive about the radiation risk they were exposed to. Materials and Methods: We measured the radiation exposure during 114 cases of PCNL performed. Thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) were placed between the operation table and...

Brain Responses to Violet, Blue, and Green Monochromatic Light Exposures in Humans: Prominent Role of Blue Light and the Brainstem

BACKGROUND Relatively long duration retinal light exposure elicits nonvisual responses in humans, including modulation of alertness and cognition. These responses are thought to be mediated in part by melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cells which are more sensitive to blue light than violet or green light. The contribution of the melanopsin system and the brain mechanisms involved in the e...

Blue-Violet Light Irradiation Dose Dependently Decreases Carotenoids in Human Skin, Which Indicates the Generation of Free Radicals

In contrast to ultraviolet and infrared irradiation, which are known to facilitate cutaneous photoaging, immunosuppression, or tumour emergence due to formation of free radicals and reactive oxygen species, potentially similar effects of visible light on the human skin are still poorly characterized. Using a blue-violet light irradiation source and aiming to characterize its potential influence...
